When Our Hearts Burn Within Us
Along the road to Emmaus, two disciples walked with heavy hearts, carrying disappointment, confusion, and sorrow. Their hopes seemed buried in the darkness of loss. Yet in the very moment they believed all was over, the Risen Christ drew near and walked beside them.
He listened to their pain, spoke to them through the Scriptures, and gently rekindled the light within their souls. Then, in the breaking of the bread, their eyes were opened. They recognised that the One they were searching for had been with them all along.
Yes, in our daily life, how often do we also walk through life burdened by unanswered questions, broken expectations, or silent suffering? We may feel alone, yet Christ continues to come near—through His Word, through the Eucharist, and through the kindness and presence of others.
The story of Emmaus reminds us that God is often closest when He seems hidden. He enters our darkness not to condemn it, but to transform it into hope.
May our hearts burn within us once again. May we recognise Him in the ordinary moments of life, rise from despair, and carry the joy of His Resurrection to a world longing for light.
