“Creating a prayerful environment” – Reflection from Myanmar
Lenten Season is a time to pause and go back to one’s inner self. It is a time of grace to return to the Lord and to reflect our baptismal dignity and to do atonement and penance for our half-hearted following of Christ. We are challenged to do penance for wrongdoings and to undergo a true conversion. As for this, creating a prayerful environment is essential.
We are distracted and consumed by the voices and noises in the world today. Moreover, we are challenged to rediscover who we are and where we are coming from. In fact, we are creatures; we need to be connected with our Creator, who is the source of our lives. This awareness should exist every day as creatures. However, living in this distracting environment, awareness would rise only when we pause and reflect on our being. Reflecting on our own being brings us closer to our Creator, who is God. Because when we come to know ourselves, we will come to convince that we are sinners but beloved of God. We are sinners because we have turned against the will of God and have followed the evil one. We are beloved because God never cease to love us as His daughters and Sons. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (Jn 3:16).
The Lenten season is a time for us to pause and reflect on our being sinners and yet beloved of God. And yet, walking with suffering Christ during Lent is a definitive comprehension of God’s love. We need to create a prayerful environment that will help us to calm down and reconnect to our source, who is our God, who suffered and gave His life for us. With God’s grace, we will have the courage to admit our sins and turn back to Him. God never tires of forgiving and welcomes us. Because He loves us more than we love ourselves. As for this, let us create a prayerful environment in this Lenten season to be worthy children of God.
