The readings for the Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time invite us to contemplate the face of a God who loves life and reveals His omnipotence through mercy. His patience in the face of evil is not a sign of weakness, but rather the expression of a love that never gives up on humanity and continually offers the opportunity for conversion.

The First Reading, taken from the Book of Wisdom, presents a God who does not act according to the logic of immediate punishment, but instead allows room for repentance and spiritual growth. In his Letter to the Romans, Saint Paul reminds us that the Holy Spirit sustains us in our weakness, interceding on our behalf and guiding us toward all that truly leads to life.

In the Gospel, the parable of the weeds among the wheat helps us understand that good and evil coexist throughout history, within the Church, and in the heart of every person. Jesus does not call us to ignore evil, but neither does He encourage us to be driven by the haste of judgment. The present time is the time of patience, mercy, and conversion. The final judgment belongs to God alone, for He alone knows the human heart in its fullness.

This Sunday’s Word invites us to live with confidence, not to lose heart in the face of the contradictions of history, and to trust in the power of God’s love, which is able to transform evil and bring goodness to its full maturity in the fullness of His time.
