The First Joyful Mystery — The Annunciation “The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary…”

This is such a familiar scene, especially on today’s feast — the Feast of the Annunciation. I have heard this story many times, yet its depth always feels new whenever I truly pause and listen with my whole heart.

Today, as I slow down a little, I am touched by the prayer: “Let us ask for the grace of humility.” I realise that this is not only a petition, but also an invitation. Looking at Mother Mary, I see a humility that is very real — not smallness or self-doubt, but a deep awareness that she belongs to God, and a readiness to let Him accomplish His will in her.

Mary said “Yes” not because she understood everything, but because she trusted and surrendered. A simple “Yes,” yet it opened the path of salvation for all humanity. Her obedience was not loud or showy, but quiet and profound — just like her life.

As I look at myself, many questions arise. I pray the Hail Mary every day, but do I truly pause to reflect? Do I allow the words to touch my heart? Or at times, do I simply rush through it?

On this Solemnity of the Annunciation, may Mother Mary teach us to slow down, to live more deeply, and to say “Yes” in the small things each day — with a humble, trusting, and peaceful heart. Amen.
