On September 16, 1989, two groups from the SMF Congregation began their mission in the Philippines,
founding communities in two dioceses. The first group was in the Diocese of San Pablo, Laguna, at the invitation of Bishop Pedro Bantigue, D.D. (†). The sisters began their apostolate in Lumban, Laguna, engaging in pastoral activities in the Diocese of San Pablo.
The first sisters were Sr. Belen, Sr. Rosita, Sr. Fortunata, and Sr. Josefina in Lumban Laguna. They later expanded their mission to include the administration of a Catholic preschool. Concordio Sarte, D.D. (†), the SMF community was founded in Polangui, Albay. The sisters were
Sr. Cleofe, Sr. Remy, and Sr. Merlinda in Polangui. The main apostolate of the sisters is the
management of a Catholic school, where they continue to share the charism of the congregation
and nurture the spiritual growth of the students and the community at large. Currently, Sr. Selma is
the temporary/vicarious superior of the SMF in the Philippines. Sr. Cleofe is the superior of the community in
Polangui. The sisters present in the Polangui community are Sr. Marilyn, Sr. Belen, Sr. Vivian, Sr. Maria
Teresa, Sr. Maria Cris, Sr. Rosal, Sr. Falanika, and Sr. Sheela in Polangui. There are nine sisters who
serve the kingdom of God in various fields.
In 2010, Sr. Christine Tee was the first formator/superior with the help of Sr. Eufring, a Filipina
to help them understand the Filipino language in the formation house, which was opened in Liliw, Laguna.
Then, in 2023, Sr. Maria Goretti arrived in Liliw as superior/formator in the International Novitiate Formation Center
of the SMF Congregation. The novices come from various countries, including
Samoa, India, Myanmar, and Brazil. Living together in this community, they experience a favorable environment
to discern their religious vocation. This period of formation offers them a profound
spiritual and personal journey, helping them to understand and embrace the unique charism and
lifestyle of the SMF Congregation, enriched by the beauty of cultural diversity. The community
has two houses: the formation house and the mission/apostolate house. Sr. Elena and Sr. Rose Mary
Bauk San are responsible for the mission/apostolate house and work together to fulfill the charism of the
Congregation: Mission and Faith – bringing Christ to people and leading people to God. With the
guidance of the Holy Trinity and the intercession of Virgo Fidelis, we strive to faithfully fulfill
God’s will wherever we are, joyfully proclaiming His Word.
